Accounting Volunteer

Hours: 10 - 15 hours/week in our DC office
Supervisor: Finance Director
Dates: Ongoing

Green America (www.greenamerica.org) is a nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to harness economic power – the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace – to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.

We are currently seeking volunteer to assist in our Finance and Accounting Department to help process transactions, generate reports, file documents and do special projects as required. This is a unique opportunity to get experience in a medium sized nonprofit accounting environment. 

Responsibilities
The Accounting Intern will work with the Finance Director to:

  • Process deposits
  • Data entry of deposits into QuickBooks
  • Perform bank reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Produce weekly excel reports showing cash transactions for our senior accountant.
  • Produce semi-monthly excel reports for our advertising team using sales and accounts receivable data downloaded from our QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Track and manage employee leave sheets
  • Update our contracts spreadsheet and provide management with reports on contracts that are due to be renewed.
  • Filing documentation
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications

Ideal applicant will:

  • Have good organizational and administrative skills
  • Have an interest in accounting and finance
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have some familiarity with QuickBooks accounting software
  • Have moderate to advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Excel data and spreadsheet     functions. 
  • Be able to use Microsoft Word
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
