Firm Seeks to Break U.S. Addiction to Petroleum-Based Plastic Shopping Bags;Over 7000 Ballots Submitted By Concerned Consumers Across the United States.

Washington, DC and San Francisco, CA -- Chicago-based is the People’s Choice for Green Business of the Year from Co-op America.  The Award was announced this month at the San Francisco Green Festival™. estimates that it has helped 70,000 customers to reduce their consumption of use-and-toss items (such as petroleum-based plastic shopping bags) by 190 millions units.

Based on 7,000 ballots submitted by consumers across the U.S., the top-10 finalists for the most popular environmentally-friendly business were:, San Francisco, CA.;, Montebello, CA; The Planet’s Homestore, Chico, CA;, Seattle, WA; Pizza Fusion, Fort Lauderdale, FL;  Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oils, Winnipeg, Manitoba;  Only Natural Pet Store, Boulder, CO; YogaNine/Buddha Body Fair Trade Store, Smithville, NJ ; Green Living Now, Huntington, VT;  and, Camby, IN.

Thousands of consumers nationwide took part in a Co-op America online questionnaire to select their favorite green businesses. The contest allowed visitors to Co-op America’s Web site to nominate and then vote on their favorite green business, with nominees coming from Co-op America’s Green Business Network™ – the largest network of green businesses screened for social and environmental responsibility. This year, received the overwhelming majority of the votes.
