The Award was announced this month at the San Francisco Green Festival™. ReusableBags.com estimates that it has helped 70,000 customers to reduce their consumption of use-and-toss items (such as petroleum-based plastic shopping bags) by 190 millions units.
Based on 7,000 ballots submitted by consumers across the U.S., the top-10 finalists for the most popular environmentally-friendly business were: ReusableBags.com, San Francisco, CA.; UsedCardboardBoxes.com, Montebello, CA; Greenfeet.com: The Planet’s Homestore, Chico, CA; Flexcar.com, Seattle, WA; Pizza Fusion, Fort Lauderdale, FL; Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oils, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Only Natural Pet Store, Boulder, CO; YogaNine/Buddha Body Fair Trade Store, Smithville, NJ ; Green Living Now, Huntington, VT; and MountainsOfTheMoon.com, Camby, IN.
Thousands of consumers nationwide took part in a Co-op America online questionnaire to select their favorite green businesses. The contest allowed visitors to Co-op America’s Web site to nominate and then vote on their favorite green business, with nominees coming from Co-op America’s Green Business Network™ – the largest network of green businesses screened for social and environmental responsibility. This year, ReusableBags.com received the overwhelming majority of the votes.
“We were thrilled by the tremendous interest of environmentally and socially conscious consumers across the country in voting for their favorite green businesses,” said Co-op America Corporate Responsibility Programs Director Todd Larsen. “We’re pleased to announce that green consumers awarded the prize this year to ReusableBags.com, which is focused on helping our society overcome its addiction to the ubiquitous petroleum-based plastic shopping bag.”
ReusableBags.com Founder Vincent Cobb said: “Our ongoing mission since day one has been to change the status quo of society’s use-and-toss mentality by providing sound, practical ideas and products. We were honored to be nominated the past two years for this Award. And it is a thrill to be the winner of this attention in 2007.”
