Green Gift Catalog Provides Alternatives This Holiday Season
November 7, 2005
Co-op America's Business Members make green holiday shopping easier for consumers this year.
Washington, DC – Co-op America announced today a new resource to help consumers across the country choose green gifts this holiday season. The Green Gift Catalog features over forty socially and environmentally responsible businesses offering special discounts and deals in order to help make green gift giving even easier. Since most of the incentives are redeemable online, conscientious consumers across the country can take advantage of this special opportunity. Co-op America, a national non-profit that educates people about promoting corporate responsibility, launched this catalog at: www.greenamerica.org/go/holidaygifts.
Just two weeks ago Co-op America announced its "No Wal-Mart" Holiday Pledge, asking consumers to not buy gifts from Wal-Mart this holiday season and instead use their gift purchases to support businesses that respect people and the planet. Now, Co-op America is going one step further, making it easier for consumers to keep this pledge by making green gift giving even easier.
U.S. consumers plan to spend an average of $681 on holiday gifts, up from $655 in 2004. The winter holidays will add up to $435.33 billion in consumer spending this year according to the National Retail Federation.
Erin Gorman, Program Director of Co-op America said, "Green businesses support social justice, healthy communities, and ecological balance. By shifting holiday spending to support green and fair trade businesses, consumers can make their gift giving even more meaningful."
Beyond the Green Gift Catalog, consumers can find socially and environmentally responsible businesses to meet all their holiday needs by searching Co-op America's National Green Pages, the only directory of screened green businesses in the country. The directory is available online at www.greenpages.org.
