Recycled Paper:
The Paper of the Green Economy

RecycleNEW: National Geographic acknowledges the environmental benefits of using recycled paper in their magazines »

Despite some advances, virgin paper production still pollutes our air, contaminates our water and releases a great amount of greenhouse gases. Conversely, recycled paper protects endangered forests, the climate and communities. Today, recycled paper is available from top paper manufacturers and satisfies all printing requirements. By choosing recycled paper, you are voting with your dollars for a cleaner and healthier planet.

In order to boost demand for environmental paper, Green America’s Better Paper Project works closely with magazine publishers to choose the best recycled and credibly certified (currently only Forest Stewardship Council certification meets our stringent criteria) magazine paper for their publication. In addition, the Better Paper Project offers magazine promotions for green magazines. Printing on recycled paper has proved an easy and cost effective method for brand building and attracting new readers. Magazine publishers, please visit our promotions page to learn more about how our promotions have helped publishers increase their newsstand sales between 29-114%.

Consumers also have the power to reduce pressure placed on forests worldwide. Consumers can demand environmentally responsible magazines and only buy recycled and FSC-certified paper for their homes and offices and stay informed by reading these recycled paper facts.
