Use and Disclosure Limitations
Green America only uses Personal Information about its Website users for specific purposes. We do not share user information with third parties except when we have told users about the disclosures, when we have prior consent, or when required by law.
When Green America gathers Personal Information from users, we ask for permission first. Personal information is used for activities such as auto-completion of commonly-used forms and helping us contact you when you solicit information from Green America for the certification process.

Although unlikely, it is possible that we may have to make certain disclosures of Personal Information to ensure the security of our Web site, to protect its integrity, or to take precautions against potential liability. In any of these situations, we will take any reasonable steps to limit the scope of the data disclosed.
Policy on Collection and Disclosure of Business Information: Green America uses certain Business Information you submit in GreenGain to provide information on your company's social and environmental performance to the public. When you begin using GreenGain, you automatically activate a GreenGain sustainability reporting Web page ("Sustainability Profile") that is publicly available on the Internet. When you earn a Green America Seal of Approval and add the source code to display the Seal on your website, the seal automatically links to your Sustainability Profile.
Several types of information from GreenGain are shared on your Sustainability Profile:
- Initiatives marked as Complete.
- Written responses to open-ended initiative questions.
- The certification level earned in GreenGain and the corresponding Seal of Approval image (e.g. Bronze, Silver or Gold).
- The duration and expiration date of Green Business Network membership.
- The year in which the Seal of Approval was earned.
Green America understands the sensitivity around disclosure of certain business data and user opinions. Therefore, user responses to certain questions in GreenGain are withheld from the Sustainability Profile. Business Information that is not shared publicly includes:
- Answers to required questions in the My Profile section during the registration completion process.
- Any information provided in the Comment field on the Initiative Detail Pages.
- All written content collected during the Gold level review process on the Gold Only Page.
In certain instances, we may find information disclosed in these areas worthy of sharing with our business members directly, or to augment research for white papers and in our publications. In these situations, we will only disclose your company-specific information publicly with your written consent.
Green America will work with users to resolve any complaints about our privacy policies or practices.
If you have a complaint about our privacy and fair information practices policy or about our implementation of the policy, you can contact us. Green America will try to resolve any problems that arise in a fair and prompt manner.
