"I SPY FAIR TRADE": Green America's Fair Trade Supermarket Inventory

Supermarket Adoption Teams: Mark your calendars!
Fair Trade Inventory Week – third week of every month!

If you thought Fair Trade foods were limited to coffee, here's some good news! In addition to coffee, there are a host of Fair Trade foods available including chocolate, hot cocoa, tea, sugar, rice, bananas, mangoes, pineapples and more. Some supermarkets even carry Fair trade craft items, household goods, accessories. Many Fair Trade items are available to supermarkets through their existing distributors or easily available for purchase from Fair Trade wholesalers around the country.

Use our I Spy Fair Trade inventory sheet to assess how many Fair Trade foods your supermarket offers.

  1. Go to your adopted supermarkets during Fair Trade Inventory Week each month (in the third week of every month).
  2. Browse the aisles for Fair Trade foods and check off those you find on the list.
  3. Present your inventory sheet to your store manager.  Ask to speak with him or her about ways they can expand their current Fair Trade offerings. Let your store manager know that you’ll be checking each month to see progress
  4. Each month, check back in and see if there are new Fair Trade products appearing on the shelves.  Complete another inventory sheet to present to your store manager.

Good luck and keep your eyes open!  You never know what exciting Fair Trade product you may discover!
