 One year after the Fukushima disaster, the federal government is negotiating with Southern Company to provide $8.3 billion in loan guarantees for two new nuclear power plants. These plants can only be built with tax payer dollars on the line.

Dear President Obama and Members of Congress:
As a United States taxpayer, I strongly object to the use of my tax dollars to underwrite loan guarantees for nuclear power. The $8.3 billion in loan guarantees that are being negotiated with Southern Company to build two new nuclear power plants simply makes no sense.
Nuclear power is dangerous and expensive. Other nations, including Germany and Japan, are scaling back or ending their nuclear programs.
Nuclear power has proven itself to be a failed technology. Please do not use taxpayer funds to create new nuclear plants that will burden ratepayers with spiraling costs and threaten our lives.
