Co-op America Presents Green Business Leadership Award to New Leaf Paper
December 5, 2006
Eco-paper provider recognized as an extraordinary leader by its peers.
Washington DC— Co-op America presented the fourth annual Green Business Leadership Award to New Leaf Paper, a pioneer within the paper industry in offering environmentally responsible papers. The award was presented on Nov. 10, at Co-op America’s Green Business Conference in San Francisco. New Leaf Paper, based in San Francisco, was chosen as the winner from amongst five nominees by the 300 conference attendees, who are all leaders in the green business field.
“New Leaf Paper exemplifies the qualities of a leading green business,” said Denise Hamler, Co-op America’s Business Division Director. “They introduced many eco-papers in the market, including 100% post-consumer recycled and Forest Stewardship Council certified papers, and they’ve taken their environmental commitment further – sourcing from mills that use biogas for energy and using shippers that run their fleets on biodiesel.”
The other four nominees for the Green Business Leadership Award were Marin iReuse (Marin County, CA), Java Green (Washington, DC), Nature’s Path (Richmond, BC, Canada), and Organic Valley (LaFarge, WI).
“We were blessed to have five terrific nominees this year, representing the growing diversity of green businesses in North America,” said Alisa Gravitz, Executive Director of Co-op America. “From recycling, to organics, to fair trade, this year’s nominees represent what’s best about the growing green business movement in the US.”
This year marks the Fourth Green Business Leadership Award. Last year’s award was presented to Habitat Suites (Austin, TX). Natalie Marquis of Habitat Suites presented this year’s award to New Leaf Paper.
