Green Festivals to Create New Social Venture
Partnered Non-Profit and For-Profit Organizations to Create More Opportunities
March 26, 2010
ASHEVILLE, NC — Green Festival, Inc., a joint project of Global Exchange and Green America, will create a new company, Green Festival LLC, to focus on the business operations of Green Festival. Green Festival, Inc. will retain the programming and educational mission for the events under a new name, Green Festival Institute.
Green Festival Institute, led by Global Exchange Co-Founder Kevin Danaher and Green America Executive Director Alisa Gravitz, will continue to provide the programming and educational mission of Green Festivals and will remain a joint project of the two organizations. Denise Hamler will serve as the Institute’s Director, working with each city's regional director to coordinate programming, host committees and volunteer teams. Green Festival Institute will also continue its agreement with Green America to provide the screening approval of exhibitors for Green Festivals so that the public can be assured that all exhibitors meet strict sustainability standards.
The newly formed Green Festival LLC will focus on the business, operations, marketing and growth of the Green Festival events. Seven-Star, the green event production company that has been managing the operations and sales of Green Festival since 2002, will continue to develop the business arm of Green Festivals with its CEO, Georgia Malki, heading up the new organization.
"Green Festival has always been an innovator," said Alisa Gravitz, executive director of Green America. "This new collaboration will allow us to continue forging new ground for years to come."
"We are excited about what is now possible with a social enterprise in the mix," said Kevin Danaher, co-founder of Global Exchange. "Partnerships like these are essential to continue exploring new territory and growing in today’s economy."
"This new venture allows us to grow and enhance the Green Festivals," said Georgia Malki, CEO of Green Festivals, LLC and Seven-Star, Inc. “We are looking forward to expanded programming and opportunities for everyone who attends the Green Festivals."Green Festivals are the nation's largest sustainability events and will be held in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago and Washington, DC in 2010. Events feature renowned authors, leaders and educators, hands-on workshops, green films, kids' activities, live music, and local, organic, vegetarian food courts. Green Festival is the only event that strictly screens exhibitors for their commitments to sustainability, ecological balance and social justice. The events walk their talk, achieving near zero-waste.
