Green America Announces
2010 People's Choice Award
With thousands of votes in, gDiapers is named
Green Business of the Year
December 8, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC -- Portland, OR-based gDiapers has received Green America’s 2010 People’s Choice Award for Green Business of the Year. The award, which is given based on consumers from around the country nominating and voting for their favorite green company, was presented at the 2010 San Francisco Green Festival™.
gDiapers combines the best of cloth and disposable diapers into one earth-friendly hybrid diaper that provides parents with a diapering solution that is good for babies, parents, and the planet. Parents have the flexibility of a disposable diaper with the market’s only 100% biodegradable gRefill, or they can opt for reusability of super soft and trim-fitting gCloth.
The first packaged consumer product to be certified Cradle-to-Cradle, gDiapers are plastic-free, elemental chlorine-free, latex-free, and perfume-free. gDiapers' biodegradable gRefills can be home-composted, tossed, or flushed. They are the only certified 100-percent biodegradable diaper and break down in about 3 months, unlike disposables which can take up to 500 years.
“Winning the People’s Choice Award is the most rewarding accolade we could receive. Nothing means more to advancing the environmental cause than the collective voice of individuals calling for and believing in change. We are so very grateful,” said Kimberly Graham-Nye, president and co-founder of gDiapers. “We couldn't have done it without all of the amazing moms and dads committed to changing the world, one diaper at a time.”
“The People’s Choice Award generates enormous enthusiasm among thousands of voters each year,” said Green America’s Green Business Director, Denise Hamler. “We’re very pleased to present this year’s award to gDiapers, a real green innovator in the diaper industry. All of this year’s finalists are leaders in creating a green economy, and we thank each of them for their leadership in demonstrating that successful businesses can also uphold the highest environmental and social values.”
The People’s Choice Award winners are chosen by individual voters across the country. Thousands of consumers nationwide took part in a Green America online questionnaire to select their favorite green businesses. The top ten finalists this year were: Brittanie’s Thyme (Cedar Springs, MI); Digital Hub (Chicago, IL); Ecobunga.com (San Francisco, CA); Faeries Dance (Harbor City, CA); Grounds for Change (Poulsbo, WA); Hazelnut Kids (Traverse City, MI); Stay Vocal (Norwell, MA); and We Add Up (Wickliffe, OH).
