Chobani and Green America Partner to Explore Evolution of US Milk Supply

Chobani and Green America to explore non-GMO alternatives for cattle feed. Chobani to Launch Three Lines of Organic Yogurt in 2015

New Berlin, NY, October 7, 2014 - Chobani, maker of America's #1 selling Greek Yogurt brand, and Green America, the nation’s leading green economy organization, announced today that they have partnered together in an effort to improve cattle feed in the U.S., including options for non-genetically modified and organic grains. This partnership will include resource sharing and active communications to promote better food for more people.

As a first step announced earlier this year, Chobani is launching three organic yogurt flavors in early 2015. Understanding that the current supply of organic and other milk from cows not fed GMOs does not meet the soaring demand, Chobani is also committed to work with farmers on transition strategies toward a GMO-free and organic milk supply and to explore what 21st century sustainable dairy operations can entail.  

“We’ve been dedicated to open and honest conversations to evolve the country’s milk supply, from increasing the number of cows not treated with rBST and improving animal welfare to exploring how to increase non-GMO feed options,” said Peter McGuinness, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, Chobani. “While this remains an upstream agricultural issue, we are proud to partner with Green America to help make meaningful changes across the dairy industry.”

Chobani, which pioneered the Greek Yogurt category less than a decade ago, has been at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues facing the dairy industry, such as creating meaningful incentives and value for farmers to eliminate RBST growth hormones from their herds. Chobani products are made using only natural ingredients that are not genetically modified (non-GMO). Chobani also requires its suppliers to certify that every ingredient, including fruit and dry ingredients, is non-GMO and conducts its own testing with a third party to test for cross-contamination across the supply chain.
