Green America: Growing the Green Economy for People and the Planet

Nancy's Gone Green
Framingham, MA

Congratulations to Summer 2013
People & Planet Award winner Nancy's Gone Green!

Founded by mother-daughter team Nancy and Mary, Nancy's Gone Green is an eco-friendly online boutique devoted to bringing you the best in ethical fashion. We offer a one-of-a-kind shopping experience to make you feel beautiful, optimistic, and connected to your purchase. We work with dozens of established and up-and-coming designers to bring you finely-crafted collections that are organic, recycled, Fair Trade or made-in-the-USA. We also offer a tastefully curated selection of pre-loved styles, as well as a locally made collection of upcycled designs.

Our aim is to make eco-friendly dressing an appealing option for any fashionista, and provide a great selection of designs that are accessibly priced - mostly under $100.

Our Style
Gone are the days when organic clothes were bland, boring, and beige. In our shop you'll find bright colors, bold prints, feminine cuts, and clever details. Together, fifty-something Nancy and twenty-something Mary choose chic and artful pieces that defy throwaway trends and delight women of all ages.

Our Ethics
We love fashion. But we hate the sweatshops, child labor, harmful chemicals, and pollution that are too often the byproducts of our industry. We believe in protecting our planet and the people who inhabit it. Every product at Nancy's Gone Green is made from natural, organic, or recycled materials -- often a combination! Every product is either made in the USA or produced outside the country according to fair labor practices. We use a system of “eco icons” to tell you about the ethics behind every product.

Our Story
Nancy and Mary got their start selling vintage and pre-owned clothes and accessories online. They quickly fell in love with the process, and knew that they wanted to turn their mutual hobby into a full-fledged business, incorporating both new and recycled products into their offerings. The duo had always been nature-lovers and environmental advocates, so it was only natural for them to seek out eco-friendly products. They began researching designers who incorporated ethics into their work, bought their first collection of organic clothing, and in 2008, Nancy's Gone Green was born. Since then our collection has expanded a hundredfold, but our mission remains the same: offer great style, at a great value, that our customers can feel great about purchasing.

The People & Planet Award
We’re currently developing our own organic clothing line, made by a group of women artisans in a poor area of Nepal. We’ll offer the collection directly on our Web site -- with no wholesaling -- so our artisans will be well paid, and we’ll be able to offer you a fantastic value with every single piece under $100. The styles are modern, playful, and figure flattering, in a great range of colors, in luxuriously soft organic fabrics. We are so excited to bring this gorgeous collection to life -- and winning this grant will accelerate the process.
